The new filter plant has arrived and is being delivered on the site ready for erection. Baths. —The caretaker reports that the attendance at the baths showed a decided increase towards the holidays. The attendance for the month of December was swimming pool 1521, and hot water baths 140. Total revenue £l7 18s 7d. He asks that a few minor re- ; pairs be attended to. LOAN WORK. Streets.—Million and Ngaio streets are now formed and metalled. Powderham street metalling is now completed . between Carrie and Robe streets. Cut- . field road culvert is progressing satisfactorily and should be completed in about two weeks. Moturoa road formation is being done between Bayly road and Pioneer road. Kerbing and Channelling.—The .following kerb and channelling has been laid down: —(lill street both sides from Eliot to lTobson streets; Molesworth streot both sides from Cover street to Idiot street; kerb only both from Eliot to Hobson streets; Cover street west side from Cill street to Molesworth street; Morley street west side from Hinc street to Bnlkeley Terrace; King street channel only south side from Queen street to Dawson street; kerb only north side from Queen to Dawson streets. I Footpaths.—The following footpaths have been reformed: —Gill street both ! sides from Liardet to Ifobson treets;o, i Cover at west side from Gill to Moles-
worth streets; Morley street west side from Iline street to Bnlkeley Terrace; ; Molesworth street both sides from Cover to Hobson streets. The following water-mains have been laid down:—Ngaio street, Mahoe street, Barriball street, Devon street, Moturoa road is now being laid to the railway crossing. Boulders.—Messrs T. and R. Parkin have delivered approximately 2000 cubic 1 yards of boulders from the beach. | ELECTRICAL ENGINEER'S REPORT. The 350 k.v.a. transformer for the new sub-station is now to hand. Of the poles I on order, over one hundred have been delivered and laid out in Liardet street i along the route of the proposed new transmission line. The remainder may be expected by the lirst steamer from Sydney. We have started erecting poles in Liardet and Leach streets. The excavating of the site for the new substation has been completed. During the past quarter 40 new connections have been put on, making a total of 1451 up to December 31st.
ABATTOIR REPORT. ' Slaughtered for local consumption:— 145 cows, 12 bullocks, 29 calve-. 507 slieeji, 388 lambs, 133 pigs and 2 suckers, tripes cleaned 13C, 2 calves' heads. Compared with the corresponding >.:ovth of last year they show an increase of ti cattle', 12 calves, 19 sheep, 30 pigs and i tripes, and a decrease of 43 lambs and 11 suckers; 5 cows and G pigs were condemned. Slaughtered for export: 3 cows, 14 bulls, 10 calves, 130 sheep, and 25 lambs; 2 bulls were condemned. No stock was slaughtered for export last December. Fees due for the month amount to £142 4s 3d: rents £3 5s (id: total £145 9s fld, an increase of .CIS 2s 9d. FINANCE REPORT. The finance committee recommend: That the committee be authorised to place on lixed deposit with the hank of New Zealand the surplus of the £20,000 electric light loan not immediately required, for such period as the committee , deems advisable: that accounts as per/ schedules be passed for payment. j
