MOA ROAD BOARD.
J MONTHLY MKKTINU. The usual monthly meeting of tin.' , Moa Road Board was held at liiglcwood j .i on Saturday. There were present: Messrs. 11. Trimble (chairman), Bridge-I man, Hopxon, Laurence, Williams, and Smith. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs Caliper and Shoemark. The Under-Secretary of tiny Public , Works Department wrote concerning a: sum of CSO tliat bud been "ranted to; the Board for expenditure on Hill Road and asked that as the road was now under the control of the Taranaki County Council, the amount be deleted from (lie schedule. The Public Works Department also
•wrote stating that a grant of £IOO had J been placed on the Supplementary Estimates for Egmont South Koad. -The State Advances OlHce wrote that the unexpended balances of loans totalling £2ll 12s lid should be lodged 10 the credit of the Department, as the amount would have to be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of section 7 of the Local Bodies Loans Act. The calling of tenders for stone for , Egmont South Road was left in the hands of the chairman. A circular from the Board of Agriculture concerning the noxious weeds trouble was deferred until next meeting. The overseer, Mr Davics, said he thought something should be, done in the mat- f ter in the meantime and was instructed I to report to the Xoxious weeds inspector any flagrant instances of neglect that came under his notice. ] On the motion ol Messrs Laurence and Hopson, it was resolved that the) j Board accept the oiler of Messrs Rowan , and Thomason to supply ten additional
yards of metal on Hursthouse Road. Messrs Kowan and Thomason also gave notice that their contract for the supply of 200 yards of shingle had been transferred to Mr A. .T. Douche. It was resolved on the motion of "MiLawrence that a 10 per cent, penalty be added to all rates remaining unpaid after the 20tli February. On the motion of Mr Laurence it was resolved that the ordinary monthly meeting of the Hoard be held on Wednesday 17th 1-V),;;i:iry at 10.3!) a.m. in' place of on Saturday, 20th inst. The chairman reported that lie had interviewed Mr Rundle to secure his consent to the Everett Road special loan, but without success. The Overseer reported as follows: The water-tables and culverts on Dudley Road East have been cleaned, loose atones cleared up and the metal blinded for a distance of 50 chains. Two small slips came down on the Davis and Wortley Roads during the wet weather, but > have now been cleared away. Three) chains of the Suffolk Road, which was I metaHed with boulders, was very rough j

The culverts have been cleaned and tim- ] ber removed from the tunnel inlet. : Water-tables have been cleaned and the I road blinded for a distance of fourteen i chains. The metalling on the Man-) gaotea Road for a distance of twelve and a " 'lf chains is completed, the labour, eon: sinking, carting anil snreadiug making ~ Mai of £l3 17s 9iL Two sets of pipe-, one of eleven 9-inch pipes and one of twelve 9-incli pipes, have been sent to this road. A start lias! been made on the Ngaro and Ross Roads to rake the metal and do the necessary' earthworks. On the Egniont Road) South, between Mr Baxter's and the radius line, 23 chains of metal have! been raked in. Water-tables and cub; verts had been cleaned loose stone! raked lip, and metal blinded for a dis-j tance of (SO chains. The decking on' the Bedford Road bridge, which has (broken, has now been repaired. The loose stone on Durham Road has been raked up. water-tables and culvert cleaned, all metal raked in and blinded for a distance of 54 .chains. Grylls and j Lawrence's contract for 300 cubic yards of boulders has been completed. The I contract for 100 cubic yards of. boulder*
on the Durham Road has now been completed. On the Norfolk Road West the water-tables and culvert have been cleaned, loose stone aked up. and tiie metal blinded for a distance of 52 chains. Two contract's for 75 cubic, yards of boulders and 50 cubic yards of j boulders have been completed. During: the month 5S pipes have been laid down! at the, pipe depot. The stock of broken shingle there, at present is nearly ex-j hausted, and needs replenishing.—i Adopted I The. cables will be tightened on the j Ngatoro bridge on Bedford T!oad. | On the motion of Mr Williams, it, was resolved to call tenders for 1001 yards of boulders for delivery on Man-1 gaotea Road. Messrs Rowan and Thomason were instructed that the money for the Eg-' monl South contract was withheld until they had repaired the damage to Mr L. Copperth's fence. Thomson and Marsh's tendeij for supply of metal on Lcpper Road was accepted. A letter was received from Mr J. B. Simpson requesting permission from the Board to dig a drain along the Cam-) bridge Road, to cut off water coming |
from the section on the opposite side of the road as it.was doing serious damage to his property. —On the motion of Mr) Lawrence it was decided to uive per-j mission to Mr Simpson to dig a four-) foot drain on the lower side of Cam-'. bridge Road within five feet of his : own boundary, at his own expense, and to the. satisfaction of the Board's over-' seer. I Accounts amounting to £l2lO were 1 passed for payment, and interest on; general loans amounting to £734 7s 3d. I
