SUBMARINES AT DOVER. REPULSED BY BATTERIES. London, January 13. Two submarines endeavored to enter .Dover harbor, when the batteries repulsed them, and it is reported that 1 both were sunk. There are many rumors of airships being sighted in the Channel. The attack on Dover was made in the darkness. Searchlights revealed the submarines, and the big :;>>:,-- on the heights beyond the Castle twice val of ten minutes. Directly after searchlights from hostile aircraft swept the skies, but they disappeared in half an hour. The sinking of the German submarines is denied.
ADMIRALTY CRITICISED. LORD CHARLES BERESFORD ON THE WARPATH. ALLEGED NEGLIGENT-POLICE. Received 14, 9.45 p.m_ London, January 14. Admiral Lord Charles Beresford. formerly Commander-in-Chief of the Channel Fleet, in a letter to the Press, says: 'TI.M.S. Formidable was lost under conditions whose repetition after the loss of the Aboukir and Cressy was thought impossible. In both cases the ships were sent to waters infested with submarines without being protected by destroyers. The efficacy of such protection has been shown by the fact that submarines have been unable, to injure the British squadron on the Belgian coast. It is unpardonable," says Lord Charles, "that officers and crews should be so exposed."

Captains of neutral ships going to Denmark, being suspected oi carrying a double set of bills of consignment, in order to evade examination by British cruisers, Denmark has ordered the owners to sign a declaration that the captain carries one set of papers only. MORE SUBMARINES. Ottawa, January 13. The Vickers Company of Canada has received an order for twenty submarines of British design. It is understood they are intended to reinforce the British fleet, SWEDISH STEAMER SEIZED.
Stockholm, January 13. A German destroyer seized the Swedish steamer Vega, laden with maTgerine from Rotterdam for Stockholm, and conveyed it to Swinenmnde.
