THE MERCIER AFFAIR. CARDINAL CONFINED TO HIS PALACE. POPE REQUIRES REPARATION. A ROYAL APPRECIATION. Rome, January 12. The Tribuna states that Cardinal Mrcier is not imprisoned, but is detained in the palace, watched by soldiers. The Pope has asked Germany for reparation, also for confiscating the pastoral. Amsterdam, January 12. Catholic organs state that many priests in the Malincs diocese refused to obey the German interdict of Cardinal Mereier's pastoral, declaring that they would obey Cardinal Mercier alone Havre, January 12. King Albert sent a message 'to the Pope expressing admiration at Cardinal Mereier's courage in not fearing to proclaim the truth and aifirni the imprescriptible rights of a just cause, according to universal consciousness.
