Against the Turks
A BIG CAPTURE. . TURKS DENY DEFEAT. Received 13, 7.15 p.m. Petrograd, January 13. The Sultau sent Noury Bey, Chief of the General Staff of the 3rd Ottoman Army, to investigate the cause of the defeat at Sarykaniish. The Cossacks captured Noury at Karaurgan. Amsterdam, January 12. Turkish headquarters deny the defeat at Sarykamish. They allege that their operations were delayed by the snow, and the Russians merely attacked and captured a transport of Turkish wounded. HODEIDA INCIDENT SETTLED. ITALY ENFORCES HER WISHES. Rome, January 12. Official.—The Hodeidah incident has been settled. Vancouver, January 12. Messages from Rome state that five Italian warships and a flotilla of destroyers, under Admiral Cagni, left Taronto on Saturday evening under sealed orders, an hour after the ultimatum to Turkey expired. It is unofficially stated that the object of the expedition is to enforce satisfaction for the Hodeidah incident.
