DISTRICT NEWS.
WAKEA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The farmers of the district this last week or so have been working very hard, getting their crops in. A few early turnip fields are looking very well. I understand that there will be two fresh motor 'buses on the road after this month, in place of the horse coaches, to carry the mails and. passengers. The weather this last week or two has been a blessing to the farmers who have turnips in, but the hay-makers are pulling long faces. The. dance held 011 New Year's Eve in aid of the hall funds proved very successful, there being quite a large gathering. Mr. and Mrs. .T. .T. Elwin have been spending their Christmas holidays in the district. I am sorry to report that Mr. Elwin lias not. enjoyed good health lately, and has been confined to his, bed. It is hoped thai he will soon be able to get about again. Mr. A. E. Magon, of Warea, has started a daily motor-ear service from Raliotu to New Plymouth, returning the same evening. There will be plenty of daily motor services by the time that; they all get going. A dance will be. held in the local hall shortly, in aid of the hall funds.
