j GERMAN BATTLE-CRUISER SUNK. BY BRITISH CRUISER. WITH 900 HANDS. Received 11, 11.30 p.m. London, January 11. An Independent Cable Service message from Vancouver says the BuenoS Aires newspaper La Prensa, publishes a report that a British cruiser engaged and sank the German battle-cruiser Von iler Tann, carrying a erew of 900 men. Another report gives a widely distant location, and adds: ''The Government lias received a wireless that the Brit'isli cruiser is afloat, and is believed to bo undamaged." THE RUSSIAN FLEET. FIGHTING IN TURKISH WATERS. Petrograd, January 10 It is semi-oificially announced that the Russian fleet fought the Breslau and Hamidich on the oth, inflicting serious damage. The fleet destroyed a number of the enemy's steamers and sailing vessels at Sinope, Trebizond, and elsewhere. On the Sth it bombarded Khopah. It is reported that the gunboat Peikishevket was badly damaged.
THE KONIGSBERG SUNK. SOME FURTHER DETAILS. SHELLED AMONG THE BALM*. CREW BELIEVED TO lIAVE PERISHED. Received 11, 9.15 p.m. London, January 11. Captain Wiliett, of the steamer Newbridge, v\ i:ic!i was sunk in order to block tile Konigsberg from escaping, has arrived, lie states that the Germans skilfully concealed the Konigsberg among the palms, and she could not be discovered until t.ic British obtained an aeroplane, which dropped smoke-bombs, revealing the Konigsberg's position. The British then shelled and sank the Konigsberg.
Captain Wiliett believes that the crew perished with her.
A BOGUS SUBMARINE. WHALE RIDDLED WITH SHELLS. Times and Sydney Sun Services. Received 11, 5.55 p.m. London, January 11. A whale drifted ashore on the Dutch coast riddled with three-inch shells. It had apparently been niistaen for a submarine. A VALUABLE CARGO CAPTURED. Received 11, 9.15 p.m. London, January 11. The German barque Viganella, with a valuable nitrate cargo, has been brought to Plymouth. [This is probably the Viganella which w-as the first direct boat from England to New Plymouth.]
