Ilrounic then attempted a rescue, lie was soon in dillicultics, and was rescued by !!. (Smith. It took about, an hour to bring Lroomc round. Meanwhile the girl Chapman disappeared. The body has not been recovered. The police are searching the beach.

The remains are supposed to be (hose of William Akers, an old-age pensioner, who was missing for sonic time. SUICIDE AT THAMES. Thames, January U. Charles lirown, aged 50, who came from Hamilton, and was working at Thames, committed suicide in the hospital Ja»t niglit by strangling himself, lie was admitted a week ago, suffering from delirium tremens, but was progressing well. He tore the bed-i'lothes in his room at the shelter shed into strips', and was strangled by his own efforts. When discovered' lie was practically dead. Medical assistance was summoned, but ■was of no avail. DATIIER DIiOWXED. (Auckland, January 11. Albert 1 Saver, aged 17, was drowned while bathing in the Pulioi river.
