ALLIES' SUCCESSES. His Excellency the Governor has received the following toiegram, dated January flth, from the Secretary of State for the Colonies:—'"Oflieial. —The French Government reports progress at various points. A stubborn infantry engagement took place near Bethhey, and important Jesuits were achieved in Hie region ;f Thann and Altkirch. '•The Russian Government reports increasingly fierce fighting oil the northern bank of the Vistula in Bukovina. Kimpolung was occupied in the Caucasus, and much booty captured, including the entire artillery of the 9th Ottoman Corps.'' Tiie following cablegram has been received by his Excellency the Governor from the Secretary of State for the Colonies under date January 8: Official.—German aeroplanes attempting to approach Dunkirk were put to flight.
Paris reports that oast of Sturges the Allies gained ground, inflicting serious "damage on the enemy's trenches at Steenstradte, Sector, and "Reims.
