A field telegraph forty-eight miles in length was being erected on bamboos. During the night a giraffe wound the wire round his neck and started off at top speed. On another occasion a rhinoceros joined a bathing squad. Every man was naked, and every tree had thorns on it. The 'rhino' marched majestically into the middle of the pool and wallowed happily, while the bathers' bare skins were blistering in the sun." THE CAMEROONS.
