NATURALISED GERMANS. IN A PITIABLE PLIGHT. Received 8, 8.30 p.m. Frcmantle, January 8. As a result of the Lumpers' Union refusal to work with naturalised Germans, a number of men with families are in a pitiable plight. One lias been 40 years in Australia, and helped to form the original Melbourne Wbarfworkcrs' Union. Another lias two sons In the cadet forces, and a third with the troops in Egypt. Most of the men are unable to get work, and the Government refuses to intern them at the prisoners' damp because they have been naturalised. REMOUNTS WANTED. RACEHORSES UNDER INSPECTION. Received 8, 8.30 p.m. Melbourne, January 8. Representatives of the Defence Department are inspecting the horses in the Flemington racing stables to search for suitable cavalry mounts. MORE MEN WANTED. INCREASED TRAINING PEOPOSAL. Sydney, January 8. Mr Carmichael, referring to the proposed national reserve, said: "We have to thank the extraordinary and stringent censorship for the inability of the public to realise the grimness of the struggle, the true position of the combatants and the possibilities of the future of this war of attrition. The time lias come honestly to recognise that the war is going to tax to the uttermost the resources of the Allies, especially the untrained millions of the British Empire." Mr Carmichael proposes that every man up to the age of fifty shall be com. pelled to undergo serious military training for at least one afternoon weeklv.
