CANTERBURY v. HAWKE'S BAY. LOCAL TEAM'S POOR DISPLAY By Telegraph—Per Press Association. Hastings, Last Night. The Hawke's Bay supporters were inclined yesterday to attribute the poor display of the local team to the state of tlie wicket, but were deprived of that excuse to-day, when, on a perfect pitch, they only exceeded their first innings by 10, and gave a win to Canterbury by an innings and 149 runs. Stevens (34), Napier (10), and Spackman (12) were the only three to see double figures, the last wicket falling when the scoro stood at 99, of which 10 were extras. Bowling Analysis: Hickmott, none for 2; Patrick, none for 23; McLnchlan, five for 17; Sandman, none for 7; Thomas, three for 6: Bonnet, none for 14; Bishop, one for 19. NORTH TARANAICI OOiIPETITIONS. The Saturday competition will be resumed to-morrow on the Recreation Ground, where Inglewood and New Plymouth will play off the adjourned match from the first round of the season. The following will comprise the New Plymouth team:—P. E. Stainton, W. C. Weston, D. H. Cooper, E. L. Mason, P. S. Oliver, L. C Richards, A. B. Chappell, W. P. Xicoll", U. V. Stohr, E. D. Colson, and G. 0. Newell. The Thursday competition will bo resumed on Thursday next, January 14th. The following are the fixtures: — January 14. —Inglewood v_ Tikorangi, at Tikorangi; High School v. Phoenix, at Sport : Ground. January 21.—Tikorangi v. Phoenix, at Sj.orts Ground; High School v. Inglewood, at Inglewood, January 28. —Phoenix v. Inglewood, at Inglewood; High School v..Tikorangi, at Tikorangi.
