TEACHERS AND DRILL.
A COMPLAINT FROM CITRISTCHURCIH. Dunedin, January 5. Last week Mr Allen received tlie following telegram from Dr Thacker, M.P. for Christchureh East:—"Teachers in my electorate, especially the older ones, arc indignant, that they should be drilled, nnd all of them sec no reason why 'they should be docked one week's holiday under Garlick's scheme.' The reply sent by Mr Allen was: — "My experience is that teachers who have been adverse to physical training at tlie start in almost every instance were grateful for the training received, when the training had ended, and the older ones especially so. I hope this may be tiie case in your electorate. Arrangements as to time were made with the Education Board of tlie district at the | initiation of the scheme for the training of teachers. It may involve some ' sacrifice on the teacher's part, but I have 'found teachers ready to give up and do • something in order to place themselves in a better position to deal with that side of tlie child's training which we cannot afford to neglect. I have also found that the association of teachers at these training camps lias been beneficial, through mutual intercourse and social i 'enjoyments, and that nearly everyone j has been sorry when the training ceased, l and that in some cases teachers have | asked that the camps be made annual."
