XEW PLYMOUTH. J The local Labor Bureau furnishes the j following report for December: —During the latter part of the month the weather | conditions have greatly improved, and consequently there lias been a corrc- j sponding advance in business and industrial operations. Dairy farmers are much I encouraged, as the supply of milk shows I little or 110 decrease, and there is a fair j prospect of the season running its usual| length. With the exception of those affected by Christmas trade, there is little or no improvement in manufacturing industries. Retailers report general business during the Christmas week to have been more than that r.f the same period last year, and ilirj* express satisfaction with the results. Building Trades—Bricklaying and carpentry and joinery have been very quiet. Painting.—Busy. Plastering niul Plumbing and Gasfitting: Still very quiet i Woodworking Trades. Roxmaking: 1 Fairlv busv. Cabinctniaking and 1 phol- t stering: Quiet. Coopering.—Busy. Rash and Door Factories, Sawmilling, and Wood-turring, &<■.-. Still quiet, but all employes are v-'orking full time. Engineering Trades. —Trade is quiet in all branches. Electrical Engineering.-—Fairly busy. Leather Trades.— Bootmaking (Factories) : Fair. Repair Shops and Saddlery and Harness Making: Busy. Clothing Trades—Dressmaking and Millinery: Manufacturers report a busy month. A considerable amount of overtime was worked, and a diliieulty found in fulflling orders before factories elo-i-d down for the Christmas holidays. Shirtmaking: Very busy. Tailoring (Order): Very busv throughout the month^ Retail Trades.—Excellent Christmas business has been done, and during the whole month conditions were satisfactory. Printing Trades.—Bookbinding and Printing: Fairly busy. Meat-Freezing, A-c.—Tanning. Currying and Fi'llmongery, and Slaughtering, Freezing and Preserving: The busy season is now well advanced, and trade is good. Coachbuilding Trades. —Blaeksniithing and Coach, Carriage, and Tramcar Building: Busy. Cycle and Motor Trades: Busy. Agricultural Operations. Farming, Dairying, &c.: flood reports have been received as to these industries throughout the district. All factories are in full swing, and the output is quite satisfactory. The line weather experienced during tiie latter part of the month has i made tin- outlook very bright. Feed is plentiful, and the m'iimhi is i xpecled to last linger than was anticipated. Miscellaneous (to include any industry not specifically mentioned above).— Aerated Water Manufacturing: Very busy. Brewing: Busy. Cement Pipe Manufacturing: flood. "Unskilled Labor Very quiet, but there are lew applications for employment be ing received. Tile local labor supply is however, equal to the demand.
