TAU lIENARE NOT CAUGHT YET. CONTINUES HIS INDEPENDENT ATTITUDE. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Auckland, Yesterday. lau lienare, the Northern Maori rnr.iibor, stated to a Star representative to-day tlmt lie had not been elected as a supporter of Mr Massey or Sir Joseph Ward. lie stood as an Independent and contested the election without help from either party. He had .been returned pledged only to do his best jfor his constituents. "I'yi a dark.horse," he said, "and absolutely no one knows what I will do with my vote." At present there is a movement to upset the election, 011 account of alleged bungling of the returning officer. Tf the appeal succeeded Tau lienare wouM again be a candidate, probably as an Independent. He gave the chiefs an opportunity of discussing the position, so that-they might indicate their views, but as they were evenly divided lie left, and will now pursue his own course.
