DISTRICT NEWS.
RAHOTU. (From our own Correspondent). The Sunday seliool picnic held on Boxing Day on the Kaliui road beach proved ft very enjoyable affair. Races for prizes , were run by the children and games were played by the young people in which all took great pleasure. Mrs. Salisbury, a very old resident of Mangorei district, passed away at the residence of her daughter, Mrs A. Baker, senr., on Wednesday evening. The funeral took place last Saturday at the Te Henui cemetery. A dance was held in the hall on New Year's night In aid of the Belgian fund, a fair number turning up considering the hot weather.
'Mrs. H. Hopkins, of Tipoka road, is suffering from a poisoned hand, and has gone to New Plymouth. Mr and Mi-s Evans, of the factory, have had to leave their little baby in the hospital on account of ill health. We are glad to hear that the child is improving already. Miss M. Hopping, the popular assistant at the Post Office, has been promoted to the position of postmistress at a town•kip a few miles from Featherston. Mr and Mrs Hayes and family arc also leaving for the Wairarapa district in a few days. Their absence will be very much felt by their friends. [ All hands are very busy in getting in gwedes or saving hay. The holidays are all over, and now the hard work starts. The total subscriptions for the Belgian Relief' Fund from the Rahotu district amounts to ,-CIW 15s 8d and £SO of clothing, making a total of £244 15s Bd. ; This has been forwarded on to headquarters.
