NORTH TARANAKI PROSPECTS.
To the Editor. Sir,—During the recent holidays I met a visitor,, who had travelled over—and was at home in—most parts of the globe, and while commenting upon the beauty of Xew Plymouth and its surroundings, he further remarked he had never yet been in a place so lavishly provided by •Nature, and with apparently such brilliant future prospects, where the inhabitants were, almost unanimous in their pessimistic expressions of opinion with regard to the present and future of the district. That which "Visitor"! stated is more or less correct. Having lived here for close on fifteen years, I can verify it, and perhaps, Sir, some of your readei'S with abler pens than mine, and greater knowledge of the effects of "fouling one's own nest," will, with your •permission, deal with the subject through the columns of your esteemed publication.—l to., etc., I OPTIMTgT.
