THE KAISER'S ACCOMPLICE.
CROWN PRINCE'S SHARE IN THE GREAT CRIME. What part has the German Crown Prince played in the making of the present war is one of the questions raised by ;i reading of a remarkable little book entitled "The Real Kaiser." The writer, .who for reasons of ail intimate kind prefers to remain anonymous, sliowa himself a very close and discerning student of the Kaiser's career and character and also of his headstrong heir. In 100S, says the. author of "The Real Kaiser," the German War Tarty had come to the conclusion that "the peaceful utterances of the Kaiser were to be taken at their face value, and that it must look elsewhere for a leader for its scheme of armed aggression. It was not necessary to look for, for the instrument was ready to hand in the heir to the throne."
THE PRINCE'S PROGRESS. The writer proceeds to show how about the end of 1!)0S little paragraphs began to appear in the German papers tending to show what a charming young mail this Crown Prince really was, and it also appeared from the Press that he was a broad-minded young man who did not share his father's prejudice r.gi'.inst thy proletariat. He attended and applauded ETauptmann's play, which the Kaiser banned on account of its Socialistic tendency. He chatted with an old cobbler who was a pronounced Social Democrat and told him that "Social Democrats would be one day received at Potsdam." AH this was gall and wormwood to the Kaiser. "The Crown Prince found it advisable to make a shooting trip in Indil, but his reputation remained behind in Germany, He returned to greater popularity tiian ever in the affairs of the Empire. In April, IDil, he interfered"in the reconciliation with the Duke of Cumberland : brought about by the betrothal of Princess Victoria Louise to the Duke of Brunswick. He wrote a letter to the Chancellor insisting that the reconcilia- ' tion should only take place on condition that the Ihike publicly renounced his | i-i;iim to the throne of Hanover.' 1

At the time the jieople of England were lapped in security, uisfi the meSL-.age, published as a curious circumstance and without any ornament, attracted little attention. Xor has any reference been made to a since."
"It has transpired that the Crown Prince of Oerniany completed last Sunday, near the Belgian frontier, a military stall' excursion in Alsace Lorraine. "From Metz he travelled in an autocar to St. Vith and Montjoie, along th.-i very road which a German army that invaded Belgium to strike at Franco's most unprotected frontier would use as a base] "In Belgian miliary circles the fact is considered somewhat disquieting.' Thus we see that when the time comes for the Kais;.r to be placed on triiii for his crime against humanity, his heir too must take his place in the dock and he indi'.ted as an accomplice and fellowconspirator.
