HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Prime Minister lias received the following from the High Commissioner: London, January 5. Paris reports that in Alsace the entire village of Steinbaeh lias been captured. German works west of Cernay were taken, and lost after a violent counter attack, but the Germans were unable to hold the position, which remains 111 the hands of the Allies. Petrograd reports desperate fighting in the Bolimoff region, where the Germans by a vigorous attack captured a trench. They were immediately dislodged, leaving numbers of prisoners and guns. Fresh progress has been made by the Russians in western Galicia, where more than a thousand Austrian prisoners were taken. During an action in the Uzok Pass, a whole Austrian battalion surrendered, with its general and stair. A hostile column was captured. On the extreme wing the Russians occupied Sntehada, one verst from the Austro-Rou-manian frontier.
