Austria boasts that site is arranging to despatch an army, of a million men to Servia. A German army corps has been instructed to occupy Riva, in Trcntino (Trent district). The explanation given is that the Austrians on the frontier arc deserting and escaping ifi hundreds over the passes, 'but the explanation is considered insufficient to account for the action taken.

The Zeit, in its New Year article, saya the cost to Austria will be still greater in its sacrifices of blood and treasure. The Arboitor Zeitung wrote that when the war was begun the sun shone his assurances of glorious victory. The sun shines no longer, but the mountain of losses rises higher and higher.
