Senator Reed proposed the exclusion of all immigrants except Caucasians. Great opposition immediately developed and the amendment was finally defeated by an overwhelming majority. Melbourne, January 2. A double tragedy has occurred at Toolera. Miss Wynne, aged 17, was shot by an Italian who was camping near the girl's home. Miss Wynne aril her sister were standing outside the house when the Italian approached with Ms gun and pointed it at the younger sister. She fled and escaped unhurt, but the man turned his gun on the elder girl and blew off the top of her head and then committed suicide. A TRAIN ACCIDENT. London, January I.
