A remarkable accident occurred to Mr Samuel Dennis, contractor, Northcote (Victoria), recently. Mr Dennis undertook to conduct an experiment with a new explosive invented by Mr Duncan, mauaner of the. Commonwealth Match Factory, and he decided to . test its power in a quarry. A hole was drilled into a rock, and Mr Dennis was tapping a charge of the explosive home, using a broom-handle, as the tapper (says the Melbourne correspondent of the Sydney Daily Telegraph). Apparently he overdid the tapping operation, for the charge exploded, and drove the broom- ] handle backwards and through lb" lloshv part of the right shoulder. Mr | Dennis was also knocked down and bruised. The broom-handle had to be sawn across between the hack to the (unfortunate man's hand and shoulder before it could be withdrawn. , CAN BE CONTROLLED.
