A trawler picked up Commander Hewlett near Heligoland after six hours' immersion. The trawler was unable to enter port owing to storms. Commander Hewlett, interviewed, said he ran into a thick fog and found himself in the vicinity of the Schlesurg coast. Ho bore down behind Cuxliaven over German territory, and when the fog cleared found he had lost his bearings. He flew over a great German fleet and a number of trawlers behind Heligoland. A terrific fire opened on him. He dropped several bombs, and believes lie hit a warship, as ho saw smoke rising from her. Later his motor ran hot, and he was forced to descend. Commander Hewlett was a week on the trawler in a terrific storm. The crew shared with him their scanty comforts and food and did everything to make him comfortable. The seaplane was lost. DANISH STEAMER SUNK. London, January 1. A Danish steamer has been sunk by a mine in the North Sea. The crew were saved.
