Grant Hervey has been charged with forging a telegram with intent to de-. fraud. , He was accused of sending a telegram to Gazzard, proprietor of the Casterton News, signed "Livingstone." It stated that Hervey was bankrupt. Counsel stated that some ill-feeling existed between Hervey and Gazzard, and Hervey's intention was to pave the way for a libel action. Gazzard published the information in his paper, and a writ, claiming two thousand damages, was subsequently issued against the paper. ■ Evidence was given alleging that Harvey had sent the telegram. Hervey was committed for trial, and on a charge of seeking to obtain £2OOO by false pretences, Hervey was further remanded.
