Evidently, to be a foreigner is in the eyes of some zealous patriots equivalent to being a Orman. The erstwhile secretary of the Auckland Scandinavian Society' (-Mr. K. Jorgensen) had a rather remarkable experience at Tauranga recently (says the Auckland Star.) The Tauranga Borough Council is building a pretentious new town hall in ferroconcrete, and out of a large number of applicants Mr .lorgensen was selected as clerk of works on the contract. Evidently the workmen engaged entertained some doubts regarding the gentleman's nationality, nr.d feeling ran so high 'hat they decided' to down tools rather than m-.rk on llic job with Yun. 'lhe Mayer had to use a good deal of persuasive eloquence to bring the men to a reasonable frame of mind, and it was not until it was pointed out that Mr. Jorgensen was not only considered the best man available for the position he held, but that lie Was a Dane, and a fellow-countryman of Queen Alexandra, that the trouble was smoothed over ar.d work resumed oa amicable terms.
