NEW ZEALAND'S FUTURE.

-»( To the Editor.) Sir, —Hie Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, Right Hon. Andrew Fisher, is now visiting New Zealand on the naval policy of Now Zealand and Australia. A note of warning is needed at this juncture to ask our authorities to pause before putting their heads in the lion's mouth and becoming subservient to the island continent in matters of naval defence. Each country lias a special destiny, and to mar that destiny would be fatal to both. New Zealand has all the natural resources to •build her own navy, the same as the Mother Country did. Britannia did not ask Europe to build up her navy, the ipride of the British Empire, but she did it herself. Let Zealandia emulate the example of the Mother of Nations, and become powerful and respected, as force U answered with force, and war is ans.wered with war, and vengeance with vengeance, in this world at present, and likely to be so until human nature changes. In conclusion, it is not impossible for New Zealand to build her own navv, considering her natural liarhems and 'shipbuilding facilities and raw material at hand.—l am, etc., J -C.S.
