STRATFORD RACING CLUB. i RE-HANDICAPS. The following ;-e-handicaps are dc- j clared for the first day of the Stratford races: — TARIKI WELTER.—SyIvan Dale 0.7. FLYING HANDICAP.—SyIvan Dale 8.5. TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa." To-morrow—New Year's Day—there will be racing in all parts of the Dominion, and judging by the many successful Christinas meetings, sportsmen will roil up hi good force to try their luck | in the New Year. "Moturoa" wishes | all good sports luck and prosperity, | and when the next year rolls along may | they be -still on top and "cracking j hearty." I For Taranaki sports there is no need to go beyon»\ Stratford for really good | racing. Fields promise to be largi', anil I with "form" somewhat exposed at the Taranaki meeting, winners should not be | very difficult to njek. Penalties (and i possibly re-handicaps) will alter the face of the acceptances, and it is quite likely that several horses that were "knocking at the door" here may be successful at Stratford. The programme opens with the Tariki Welter (seven fummgs), ami the ! field includes Sylvan tfale, who sliowed improved form on Boxing l)ay, and fair performers like Bivouac and Patronata. I The Borough Stakes (4J furlongs), for ' horses that have not won a race at time of starting, should suit quick I beginners like Fidessa, Wild Daisy and Wioletta. Toa Tore will have a. fair load in the Stratford Cup, but he should strip better than at New Plymouth, and may start favorite. Invader ran well at Awapuni, and may win a race at Stratford. Calais anil Lady Amai have recent form to recoimiend their chances in the Railway Handicap (5 furlongs). I A double penalty will bring Stryax's weight up to 11.2 in the Ohura Hurdles (1:| miles), but he carried 10.2 to victory on Monday and the extra few pounds may not trouble him. The hurdlers, however, promise to be a better class at Stratford, and if Captain Mackay is brought up from Foxton, Stryax and Tirolmnga may have to travel faster than ever before. In- ■ vader. Patronymic and Quo Vadis are nicely treated in the Midhirst Handicap (Ri furlongs), and Patronata and Harbour Light may be the elect of backers in the Farmers' Plate.* The Flying Handicap (six furlongs) looks open, and Calais, Crawford and Glenroy all have chances. The meeting will be concluded on Saturday. To-morrow will be Derhy Day at Ellerslie. Reputation showed up 80 well in the Auckland Cup that the mile and a half w.f.a event I'ioks good for him. Our Auckland are having a record meeting. In fact, they are racing mud in the North. Tote records are being smashed every day, and when investments average over eight thousand quidlets per race it is time to pause and wonder where it will all end! The Marten Summer meeting will draw good fields to-morrow. On recent running St. Gate, Queen's Post, Melodist, Sunbird and Bertrada shou'.-! show up in whatever events they start. Square Deal was unlucky at Awapuni and should win a race at the Wairarapa meeting. Others that should show up there are Cliakwana, Plumhr and Miraculous. Big fields are carded for the opening day of the Hawke's Bay meeting. Winners may be hard to pick, but Allen Domic, Fair Rosamond and Despatch Carrier mav run prominently. (ilad'n.le'owes her second Manawatu Stakes victory to the fact that she v.i's moving up at a hand gallop win n the r,.pcs lifted. Willi a lev,.] .start it would have been: Enipcrador Ist., Oadiole 2nd. every time.
