THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
HON. JAMES ALLEN'S VIEWS. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Wellington, December 21. At the letter-carriers' dinner, Mr. C. D. McEwan, in proposing the toast of the Government, made some remarks on ■fiic possibility of a coalition Ministry. Mr. Allen, responding, referred to tbe re. marks. He said be was not there to say anything about the possibilities. He pointed out that the parties were, very even, and that he was not able to say anything. Whatever contingencies might result in. he was certain the country, almost to one person, would back up the Ministry so long as it was answering the call which came from New Zealand and the Empire.
