The Tobacconists' Association has do cided to add one penny an ounce to the price of imported tobacco and a penny per packet to imported cigarettes, to cover the new tariii'. The High Court has awarded Alfred ' BIG CLAIM CHANTED. Sidney, December IS. Iluddy, a miner, .£IOOO, the record dam ages, for injuries received from the fall of a stone while employed by the Hampden, Cloncurry Mining Company. Huddy had his skull fractured, both jaws broken, three ribs cracked, his left leg shattered, while his right arm was mangled and had to be amputated. Huddy recovered, and is regarded as a ' misaculous recovery. A FUTILE APPEAL. Received 17, 10.15 p.m. Melbourne, December 17. The Court dismissed the Age newspaper's appeal against the verdiet in the AVatt libel ease, wherein Mr Watt was awarded .€IOOO damages.
