WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the above Board, there were present: The chairman (Mr T. French), Messrs Surrey and Turnbull. Correspondence was read from the Ocean Accident Insurance Company returning policy endorsed to cover cin- ' ployecs engaged in quarry work, at a premium of €5 per cent.; from Mr Hoskiu, requesting that the upper end of the Kairau road be graded; and from Mr K. Harris, forwarding amounts received for royalty on sand. . The chairman reported that he had seen Mr R. Tate re working road grader, and Mr Tate informed him he would be unable to start work at present. The gravel pits in Mr Clark's and Mr W. Howe's had been inspected. The first named appeared to have a quantity of good metal, but the cost of making a • road to same would be more than the Board could all'ord at the present time. The pit in Mr Rowe's could be . easily opened up, and it was decided . to instruct the surfacemen to do this, provided Haskell and Co. were agreeable to get out a few yards for trial on the Kelly road. Mr F. Hoskin is to be informed that the Board has no funds at present for grading the Kairau road. It was decided to have the following roads formed with the road-grader: Manutalii West, and by Mr Hellier's, Ackworth, Cross, Richmond, Kelly, Mahoetahi, Bertrand, Tate Ninia, Wortley, Upper Corbett, Pennington and Kairau to McCaul's. It was estimated that it would take about 21 days to do this. Mr Harris is to be informed that the Board will form the portion of Richmond road along his frontage, provided he does the necessary ploughing free. ' Accounts amounting to £122 were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned .
