TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Hoard was held at New Plymouth on Wednesday. Present:—Mr (i.H. Builard (commissioner), in the chair, and Messrs A. Coxhead, C. ■(. Ryan, and \V. W. Jones. Jt was decided to approve of alteration of area of Sec. 3, iilock X., Omoua S.D., to lminc. Ranger Tohnc, having certified to same, proposals for expenditure of thirds £270 Ms by the Ohura County Council, were approver:. Ranger Meredith for warded, a report on lots if, 10, 22, Village of Tongaporutu. :Siae. lid 20>, held by Mr J. 0. McKoy under a monthly tenancy. A portion of the ;»rea was threatened by a sanddrift, and lessee having fenced on* the sand-drift and planted the area with marram grass and lupins it was decided to grant Mr McKoy a lease for 5 years at a rental of X.2 for the first year and ClO per annum for the balance of the term; no compensation for improvement at any time; noxious weeds to be kept down; lease terminable by riving twelve months' notice in writing. .'. 11. A. Tr Iwell, licensee, of section ", lilock IX., Taurakawa S.D., 1575 acres selected 17th Dec. 1!)()7, applied for an additional area of 400 acres, being part of section 1, Block XIII., Taurakawa S.D. adjoining, in order to give him better access. The application was approved, and the balance of section 1 is to be opened for selection as third-class land at a capital value of 10s per acre. .Ino. McKenzic, lessee of E.R. section 3, «lock VIII., Waitara S.D., 24 acres, j applied to transfer ins interest to Chas. H. Jury, The application was approved | subject to production of. necessary cer- ' tificate as to compliance with conditions of lease. J. V. Rawlinson and Jas. Porter, licensees of section 7, Block XIV., Mahoe S.D., 035 acres, selected 20th November, 1013, applied to transfer to Jas. Porter' (tn close partnership). The application, which had previously been before the Board, was approved, Frederick Earr, jnr., lessee of L.I.P section 2, Block XVI., Opaku S.D., 510 acres, selected Kith November, 1803, applied to transfer to Walter Beard. All conditions had been fully complied with, and the application was approved. A. J. and W. 11. (Stockley,'sublessees of Sub 1 of. Sec. 32, Block VI., Ngatimaru S.D., applied to transfer their interest to Jas. Hv. Hobbs. Area 17 acres 3 roods 20 poles, selected 18th September, 1H0!I. All conditions having been complied with, the application was approved. A further application by A. .1. and W. il. Stocklev, sublessees of Scctiwi 41, Block Vl.,' Xgatimaru S.D., 280 acres to transfer their interest to Jas. H. Hobbs was also approved. The same applicants who were also sublessees of Section 30, Block VI., Xgatimaru S.D., 432 acres, applied to transfer their interest to Jas. 11. Hobbs and this was also approved.

Stanley W. Shaw, lessee of E.R. Section 540, New Plymouth, applied to transfer to Edward Bury. No improvement conditions.—Approved.

.ino. Butler, licensee of 0 R.P. Section !), Block VIIT., lluiroa 5.1)., 400 acres selected 21st May, MOD, renewed his application to transfer to Hugh Johnson. The 'application was again declined. The Commissioner reported that Mr Griffiths, Km\, of Xew Plymouth, had signified his willingness to act as the Land Board's arbitrator in connection with the determination of fresh rentals for renewed Education reserve leases: Sections Io!)3 and 1018, Sections 13 and 14, and Section 19, New Plymouth town; Section 2 and Section 3, Huirangi Town Holt, and Section 1, Tikorangi Town Belt. It was decided to rescind the Board's two resolutions of 20th August last apopinting the Commissioner of Crown Lands and E. A. Meredith the Board's arbitrators in reference to the above-

mentioned leases, and to appoint Mr Griffiths, snr., to act on behalf of the Board.

Reports were received to the effect I that several settlers were in default in connection with improvements, or not fulfilling residential conditions. It was resolved to grant 12 months' exemption from personal residence to the following selectors who had left their holdings to join the expeditionary force, the improvement conditions having been fulfilled in each case: ; 1.F.0.R.P., Section 2(i, Block I, Tangiitn 5.1)., J. T. Dixon; R.L.. Section 1, I Block YIL, Tangitu 5.1)., C. R. Fitton; 51.F.0.RP, Section 13, Block 1, Tan<gitu S.D., 0. Hopkins; L.1.P., Section 2, Block VI., Upper Waitara, L. J. Ashworth.

Ranger Meredith forwarded a report and valuation of Section 14, Block XL, Waitara S,D., 22 acres Crown lands for disposal, and it was decided to submit 5 for sale at auetmn. Hanger Meredith also forwarded a report on Section 4, Block VIL, Pouatu 5.1).. !!ti acres, which it was proposed to throw open for selection being no longer required for township site owing to the diversion of the railway line. The matter was left in, the Commissioner's hands.

Ranger Meredith furnished a report and valuation of Section 0, Block 1, Pouatu S.D., Crown land, which it was proposed to have re-opened for selection. It is intended to re-oll'er the land for selection under Part 3 of the Act.

Ranger Meredith forwarded a report and valuation of Section l, Block V., and Section 3, Block VI., Pouatu S.D., 314 acres (together) which it was proposed to have re-opened for selection.— Approved.

Ranger Meredith also forwarded a report and valuation of Section 1, Block X., Mahoe S.D., 529 acres Crown lands, proposed to have re-opened for selection, and this too was approved. District-Surveyor Wilson reported re value put upon Section 11, Block XL, Mahoe 5.1)., 1014 acres and stated that the inclusion of Section 10 (Forest reserve), in the area enhanced the value of the whole. Consideration was deferred to enable the Board to make an inspection on the ground.
