The German Crown Prince has left an unenviable name for himself at the front; wherever he rested, a broad trail of destruction and looting spread over the immediate vicinity. In one place, he not only looted a chateau but left it in an indescribably foul condition; nothing in the place remained intact. A village called Villiers-aux-Vents, in France, where he stayed with his staff, was reduced to a heap of ruins in a spirit of wanton destruction. But, from evidence gathered at the latter place, the royal body is a coward as well. There was a pitched battle between Villiers-aux-Vents and Revigny, which, from the German side, was directed from a village on a hill. .In order that the prince might receive no hurt, an elaborate scries of excavtions was constructed at the back of bis house, with a tunnel leading to a thicket some distance away, so that when things became too warm, the royal looter might take to his burrow and hide in safety. The excavations were about five feet in depth, covered over with boards, earth and turf.; inside, they were comfortably lined with dry grass and straw. The total length was about 100 feet, so there was room for the stall' as well. The house behind which they were constructed was the largest in the village. All that was left standing when the Germans retreated was three and a half walls, witli a pile of wreckage inside, conspicuous among which was a half burned arm-chair, upholstered in red velvet, which was part, of the Crown Prince's field furniture.
