DISTRICT NEWS.
URUTI. (From our Own Correspondent.) Friday evening last was a gala night, for the district, being the breaking-up' social of the Misses Bramwell and Richardson's dancing class. Judging by the crowd that was there, there could not have been many of the settlers absent, and those not present missed a treat. I even noticed visitors from Waitara and Urenui. The entertainment was commenced with a grand march by the pupils in fancy dress, during which they sang, "It's a Long Way to Tipperary," "Soldiers of the King," and "God Save the King." During the evening fancy dances and songs were given by the pupils, 'and songs by Messrs Musker and Johnson, : between each dance. The teachers deserve great praise for the way the children danced and sang. I hear Miss Bramwell 'must liaye the credit of the ' dances, and Miss Richardson for the i songs. The duties of M.C. were carried : out by Mr Aroa. Music for the dance ' was supplied by Misses Richardson, ' Smith, N. Murray, and K. Murray, and ' Messrs Aroa and Poole. A few of the ' dresses I particularly noticed were:— ' Misses Richardson, pink, with black vol- ' vet facings; Bramwell, floral muslin with 1 ■ mauve trimmings; Jones, pink satin; i' Nolan, cream silk; Bell (Waitara) white \' sponge cloth; K. Murray, pink cash-5 : mere, and many others. The takings ' at the door amounted to £5 18s 6d, ! which the Misses Bramwell and Richard- ' son have, after deducting a small amount for expenses, donated to the Belgian ' Relief Fund. i
