AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.

INCREASED DEATH DUTIES. Melbourne, December 12. A Bill covering the new death duties has been introduced in the House. The Budget shows last year's revenue as £10,572,120, and expenditure as £10,622,649. There will be no new taxation this year, it being proposed to issue Treasury bonds, which will be redeemed by an additional income tax and stamp duties. The Ministry has arranged to secure a million bushels of seed wheat, and anticipates that an increase of four million acres will be offering, with a yield of live million bushels of grain. The no-confidence motion, condemning the Government for having abolished fixed prices for wheat and other commodities, was defeated by 33 to 20.
