TWO DAYS' OF THRILLS.
.o AT THE AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL. The Axemen's Carnival at Eltham is something out of the beaten track. It is Unique in its way. This is the only centre in Taranaki which devotes two whole clays to the encoure "j ;ment of this great sport, and that the efforts of the New Zealand Axerr.en's Association are appreciated is shown by the exceedingly large entries i.i all events each year from all parts cf the Dominion and the great crowds which annually take their holiday thrill from the edge of the axe. This year there is the added attraction of a tug-of-war for teams of seven, entries for which close next Saturday. The first prize Is £3O cash. Cycling events have drawn entries from both islands, and the events on a greatly improved track should provide some exciting finishes. Excursion fares on the railways both days. ".
