A FILLIP TO RECRUITING.
PALMKIISTO.YS m^I'OXSE By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Palmerston, Last-Night. A most enthusia.-die meeting was k:-!d on Saturday night in aid of tin 1 , recruiting movement. The Opera House was crowded, arid thousands waited on t!ie road outside. ITIIO programme, consisting of patriotic songs and speeches inside the'building, was repeated to thousands outside, who were unable to gain admission. Captain Goldingham presided. Mr. D. P>uick, 11.1'., made a great patriotic Rjx'ocli, ill which lie stated it was far ] better to send young men to the front, and if that was not sufficient, then "us old fellows" would have to join the lir-iiig-linc. Ho was also annoyed when.he rend the remarks of the local Farmers' Union members that it was an inconvenient time to spare their hoys. ln-cau ■:< they hart cows to milk, or some other excuse. ''Semi the hoys," said Mr P.uick t "(.lie women will do the niilkin:?. if m-ces.arv. and it won't do them much harm." 'Fifty-live recruits volunteered.
