DISTRICT NEWS.
IXCLEWOOD NEWS. Mr Hughes, the Liberal candidate, addressed a large audience in tlie. Town Hall last night, and received a good reception. His speech was on similar lines to his previous speeches, and with the exception that he had to clear up one or two misrepresentations. Mr Hughes has proved himself a man with plenty of go, and during his campaign out this way he has made few enemies and plenty of friends. He was accorded a good hearing, and at the conclusion of his address a hearty vote of thanks was carried amidst enthusiasm. '* This is the last of the political speeches, and everybody has cleared their decks for tiie final battle to-morrow, which is being looked forward to with considerable interest The Catholic Church last week collected £2O as in aid of the Belgian Fund. This is remarkable, considering the district had already been well drained by various other funds.
RATAPIKO. Mr J. B. Hine, M.P. for Stratford, addressed the electors here on Tuesday. Mr A. Can- was in the chair. There were about forty-five people present, and the candidatej received an excellent hearing. Two interjectors learned to their cost that silence when a man is speaking pays best. 'Mr 1-line dwelt largely on the administration of the present Government. His politics were applauded' again and again. Never before in this district has such an interesting address been given. A hearty vote of thanks, and confidence in the Massey Government, proposed by Mr A. Chong and seconded by Mr •). iStachurski, was carried unanimously, not a single dissentient being heard in the room.
