MOXTHLY MEETKG. The usual monthly meeting of the committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday afternoon, Mr. Moyes presiding, and there being also present: Messrs. Pjiton, Cutfield, Sandford, Matthews, and the secretary (Mr. R. C. Hughes). The correspondence included a lcttef from the Railway Department, notifying the renewal of the inspector's tram ticket. A friend of the cause wrote, drawing attention to the cruelty inflicted on pigs, which were often without food or water for long periods when being conveyed by train. The inspector's report, which was of considerable length, was read and discussed. It was resolved that a letter should be sent to the Wellington Society, also to Dimmock and Co., asking >vhat provision was usually made for the watering and feeding of pigs during transport, - The committee decided to send a letter to Colonel Cosgrove respecting the money handed -to the society by Mr. Gault. It was decided to write to Mr. West, requesting him to direct his drivers not to stop the 'buses at the inclines in Currie street and the Old Hospital road. Accounts amounting to £lO 18s fid were passed for payment.
