AN AUCKLAND SENSATION.
A SERIOUS CHARGE. , Auckland, Last Night. A sensation was caused here to-day when it became known, upon the authority of a statement made and sworn be- 1 fore a Justice of the Peace, that tho organising secretary of a Reform candi- 1 date had signed, stamped, and delivered an agreement, guaranteeing to the Social Democrat candidate £lO0 o payable on 11th December, provided the Social Democrat goes to the poll against the Lib- ■ oral and Reform candidates. Fearing the .! .outcome of this transaction, tho 'or- i ganiser subsequently offered £IOO for the return °fjie document given to the .' candidate. -This was refused. The idea, ' of course, was to keep the Social democrat in the field against the liberal, with a view of splitting tho Liberal and Labor vote.
