A WEAK POINT.
To tlio Editor. 'Sir,"Please allow mo space in your valuabk paper to point out one at least of the weak planks in the Liberal party's platform. I refer to the referendum on the Bible in Schools, and Mr Hughes' reply to my query at the conclusion of his public address delivered to the electors of Omata, to which 1 received a somewhat evasive reply, including war. I wish to remind 'Mr. Hughes that had the ethics of the old Book been incorporated into political affairs of tliat nation responsible for the. war, such an event would have been a national impossibility. I regret his failure to recognise my point, and its far-reaching influence on the lives and morals of a vast number of children in the far away corners of the land, many of whose parents have neither time ndr inclination for home teaching. It is just here where Mr. Hughes fails to meet one of the many needs of the people. Is this Liberalism? Is this democracy? I say not, but is decisive, immoral, and reminds mc of our friend's brilliant remark, "Kaiser rule," which he is so fond of hurling at the Reform Government. Then I ask why not allow those same ethics to dominate the minds of those aspiring for political honors by giving to the people that which they are justly entitled to? In conclusion, the time has past for shelving this question, and no amount of card shuffling will avail'the final issue.—l am, etc., J. EAMSBOTTAM. Omata, December 7.
