THE KAIRAKI DISASTER. Westport, Desember 0. The body of a man, about six feet in height, with legs and arms eaten oil, and a strip of tennis shirt around his neck, and the leg of a souk on his left foot, was found on Saturday on the beach five miles of Cape Foulwind. It is behoved to be the body of a member of the crew of the s.s. Kairaki, lost some timo ago while on' the way to Greymouth. . CHESS CHAMPION-SHIP. Wellington, December C. For the New Zealand chess championship tourney, which begins in Christchurch on the 28th inst., six nominations have already been received, and it is anticipated that half a dozen more at least will be in before the closing day. It is not yet certain if the Eevs. C. E. and E. G. Fox will arrive from Xorfolk Island in time to take parfo.
