RED CROSS COLLECTIONS.
To the Editor. Sii - ) —I notice by the announcement in the papers that it is proposed to make collections on Thursday next throughout the electorate in aid of the Bed Cross Fund. This is a very laudable object, and deserving of the fullest support, but it is a pity that it should be proposed to make collections at the doors of the polling booths. It is very probable that this will act as a deterrent on the voting, as many people may-not have the means to subscribe at the present moment, and rather than have to refuse may abstain from voting. -Would it not be equally effective from the collectors' point of view if the collections were made about the town and district, and not in the immediate vicinity of the booths? The objection to the present proposed method is seriously urged, and it is to be hoped that the promoters will give the matter their "attention without delay, and announce their programme, changed in the direction suggested.—l am, etc., ELECTOR.
