THE OPUNAKE MEETING.
To the Editor. Sir, I noticed in a local in your issue of Saturday last that tlu! feeling ran 1 nigh at '.Mr. Wilkinson's meeting at Opunake last week. ' This I can only say is absolutely incorrect, the meeting at 1 Opunake being a most favorable one to the candidate. At the conclusion of the address a vote of thanks for the good work done during the past two and a half years, and confidence in him as Opunake's future representative was carried unanimously with cheers. Possibly your local was intended to refer to the meeting at Itahotu. At tiiis meeting the audience was subjected to some annoyance by two prominent so-called Liberals who were illiberal enough to attempt to prevent the candidate getting a good hearing. Notwithstanding tliis, .Mr 'Wilkinson had an excellent meeting, and at the conclusion a vote of thanks was proposed and seconded by the two gentlemen above referred to. 'This was immediately squelched by an amendment of thanks to the candidate, and or absolute confidence in him as a representative of the people. This was carried practically unanimously.—l am, etc.. OXE AVHO WAS AT BOTH MEETIXGS.
