MINE-LAYING CONTIN ÜBS. Received (i, 5.5 p.'m. London, December 5. The Admiralty status that the Berlin, whose capture was recently announced, was almost without coal. The vessel was specially fitted for mine-laying, but, as far as is known, there were no mines aboard. Probably these had been sown broadcast in the track of neutral and British shipping. German floating mines are constantly sighted, and many are still dangerous. DANGERS ON ENGLAND'S COAST. AN ADMIRALTY WARNING. Received (j, 4 p.m. London, December 5. The Admiralty notifies that lights, buoys, and fog signals in the Channel and on the Downs arc liable to cessation or alteration without notice after the 10th. The Navy List show;, the addition of the battleship Canada, the light cruisers Cambrian and Wallaroo. The battleship Canada was the Almirante Latorie, building for Chili. The Admiralty christened the new flotilla leaders the Botha and the Tippcrary.
CONGESTION IN THE THAMES. OUR TRANSPORTS AND THE EMDEN.
London, December 4. The Star says that the Tilbury docks are full and steamers are lying in the river awaiting berths. This congestion is due to the war. Numbers of vessels were held up for various reasons and arrived together. The Unnin-Castle Company has removed its boats from Southampton to Tilbury. The Atlantic Transporter arrived with nearly 14,000 tons of American fruit. It is almost impossible to hire barges, and the sheds are crammed with goods. Melbourne, December 5. In the Senate, Mr Pearce stated that when tl(e Sydney encountered the Emden the transports were within a hundred miles. The Emden's commander undoubtedly intended to get amongst them. The Sydney ,was acting on convoy duty. GERMANY'S COAL SUPPLIES. Copenhagen, December 4. Norway has protested against Germany's seizure of the Helicon's coal.
