The athletic competitions in copnec* ' tion with the Bayly Memorial Scholar- ' ship eventuated on the High School ground on 'Saturday. In all of these a' standard has been set, for which CQf points aTc awarded, and there are fur* ther points for place-winners, ■ To qualify it is only necessary to gain 80 points. For this years scholarship ten hoytf entered, viz., D. Doile, A. McHardy, (Jraha'm, M. Atkinson, D. Candy, A. CaU lander, R. Phipps, and E, Tansey (N«m Plymouth High School), M. Copostakt (Stratford D.H.S.), and D. Clements (El* tliam D.H.S.). The two latter boys aw rived in New Plymouth by the mail trainl on Friday evening, and were the guests of Sir. W. 11. Moyes at the High School. The sports grounding.in fine order, dfri spite the recent rain, and as Mr. Moyes had made complete arrangements wf marking the ground, etc., the events were quickly decided. The officials wereti —Messrs. James McLeod (chairman) and .Tames Garcia, representing the Taranald Rugby Union; W. H. Moyes, A. R. Ryder, S. Paul, J. Bennett, E. Whittle, and Aj E. Sykcs. Sonic good performances were put up by the boys, who showed inj» provement on last year, and only ontf failed to gain the 80 points needed ttf" •fualify. Copestake, of Stratford, with* five firsts to his credit, secured first place , , with 245 points. The other qualifying I points wore:—Graham .200, Callandei; 120, McHardy 110, Tansey. 105, Candy 99, Atkinson 85, Phipps 80, Clements 80. The detailed results were as follow:—i 100 Yards (standard, ISsec.).—Cope* stake (Stratford D.H.S.), 40 points, l'fl McHardy (New Plymouth High School)', 1 30 points, 2; Graham (N.P.H.S.), 26! points, 3. The final results will not be knowfi until January, as the results of thef scholastic examinations have to 1» added.
