THE LIBERAL CAMPAIGN.

GREAT RECEPTION OF MR, WILFORD. A TRENCHANT CRITICISM. The m<wt' enthusiastic political meeting ever hold in New Plymouth, and. probably one of the largeßt, was that which faced Mr Wilford in the Theatre Royal last night. Tumultuous applause greeted him wneh he took the platfor(ii, and all through liis speech he had the vast audienco with him in his trenchant criticism of "the ways of Reform/' and letting in some light on the workings of Parliament. He dealt trenchantly with finance, and the "Reform" misrepresentation of the financial position when they took office, charged the Government with deliberately anil intentionally rigging the Statute Book to enable them to deceive the - people. He accused the Government of want of businfess knowledge and administrative ability in connection with provisioning the troopships, and explained the cause of the canteen scandals. The "pigeon-hole" charge, and the traducing of the Liberal leader were caustically handled.

I The failure of the Government to pro- ' tect the people against the rapacity of the big men holding wheat was clearly > exposed, and the speaker dealt forcibly. * < ! with the endeavor made to class the Liberals as Red Feds. He concluded a telling speech by quoting to his hearers the following telegram,, forwarded to the "Reformers" in Otaki at the last election, when they asked for instructions as to their voting m the second ballot , between Mr. Robertson (Labor) and Mr. Field (Liberal) "I trust, in interests of the Dominion. Opposition will join with Labor in ousting Ministry, whose thought is only for selves, and not for tho country."
