DISTRICT NEWS.

AimoA. (From our Own Correspondents). A Tennis match was held on Wednesday afternoon between the Hawcra King Edward Park Club, and the local club, when the visitors scored a decisive win. At the conclusion of the games, the president, (Mr D. A. Poole) thanked the visitors on behalf of the club for their visit, and hoped it would not be the last time tlicy would come to Auroa. Mr Liddington, of the Hawera club, responded. The ladies provided afternoon tea in their usual style. The following are the results, Hawera being mentioned first in each case: — LADIES' SINGLES. Mrs Bernard (i v. Mrs Penny 3; Miss Barton 6 v. Mrs Tait 3; Miss Jenkins 6 v. Miss Poole 0; Miss Stone 6 v. Miss McCarty 1. MEN'S SINGLES. Bernard 7 v. H. Poole 0; Hurrell 7 v. Mi's Bernard and Miss Barton 4 v. Mrs. Penny and Mrs Tait 6; Misses Jenkins and Stone 6 v. Misses Poole and McCarty 0.

I must apologise for inadvertently omitting Mr W. Bradford from the list of local exhibitors at the Hawera Show in my last week's notes. Mr Bradford, who has just made a start with Holsteins, secured a first, second, and a j third, which goes to show that he has apparently some good sorts. -Mr Rawcliffe secured a first and reserve with his two-year-old Ayrshire bull, and Mr Tait a third with his Ayrshire bull. Thi3 bull is an exceedingly nice beast, having 1 secured first and reserve at last year's show. Some good judges say that if - Mr Tait put more beef on him, the honors more than probably would have come his way. The same exhibitor also had.' some Berkshire pigs at the show and scored-a second and a third with them, ' having only taken thorn from amongst ; the mob in the paddock. Now it is to he hoped that Mr Tait, seeing that he is on the track of the right quality, will rise to the occasion, and before next year's show rolls around, have his stock in the pink of condition, and the scribe is certain that red tickets will be his reward. RAHOTU. Mr Wilkinson addressed the electors in the hall on Saturday evening, about sixty being . present.' Mr E. Maxwell was voted to the chair. Mr Wilkinson's address was similar to that given at Eltham. Interjections were indulged in rather too freely, and the chairman had to plead several times for a fair hearing. Questions took the best part of an hour to answer, and the speaker's voice was getting very husky towards the end. A hearty vote of thanks was carried. Mr Newton King's sale to-day turned .out rough and showery, but, considering all, there was very good bidding for the animals put up for the Poor in Belgium Relief Fund. One sheep along was put up several times, and at last realised £24. The Holstein toll brought £lO. 'Many lots were sold and resold, and the local Belgium Relief Fund should be helped to the extent of £9O. I The Poor in Belgium, relief concert was held in the evening, the Rev. Featherston being chairman, A good programme was given as follows: Misses A. and M. Hugh son, pianoforte duet; song, "There's a Land," Mr Manning, (encore, "Veteran's Song"); chorus, "Ring the Bell, Watchman"; spng, "The Admiral's Broom" Mr Illingworth; (encore; "Sergeant of the Line"); Recitation, Mr Magnus Hughson; song, Deathless Army," Mr J. B. Groom; song, "Queen of Angels," Mr T. P. Hughson, jnr.; song, "Britannia," Mrs Memmeny (encored); recitation, "A BusX Christening, Mr Manning (encore); "Mine Family,"); song, "Asleep in the Deed," ' Mr Illingworth (encored); company chorus, "Good Night," and "God Save the King." Then came a vote of thanks to all helpers especially to Mesdames, Willcox, Fischer, and Williams, and Misses Dew and H. Wright, who so energetically canvassed the district. Accompanists were Miss A. Hughson, Mesdames Groom, Harrison, aiid Mr Knowles. The net proceeds of the concert sale and da'nee, realised about £23. One button-hole alone brought IBs (id. None sold under 2s fid, and it is thought that with the amounts the above ladies have collected the Kahotu donations will be close on £2OO.
