Tlie stoamor Ripple returned to Wellington to-day witli tlie lifeboat and men btonging to the steamer Kaliu, av.lio were left ashore on Saturday after endeavoring to .save tlie lives of three men drowned as tne result of the capsizing of a surf boat. The Collector of Customs began a formal inquiry, which will be completed to-morrovr. If the drowned men's bodies are not recovered, tlie Marine Department hais power to' order a special inquiry regarding tlie accident.
