The hurdlers were a good lot; Player, The Rover, Aruake, Bercola, Fashion Plate contesting the open events, and St. Gat.c, Leapuki, Sir Donald and Aratiatia being the best haekß engaged. Aruake returned his supporters a fine dividend on the opening day, but Fashion Plate finished so fast that it appeared as if her rider had made an error of judgment which cost the mare's party the race. The Rover was favourite each day, but shut up completely when the real racing began. Player was well settled with weight, aftd on pulling up on Monday was found to have broken a small bono in one of big legs. He was under offer to an Aucklander conditional 011 his pulling up sound, and this mishap (which appears to be serious), was a stroke of bad luck for Mr J. M. Gouldsmith.

Leapuki could have been bought cheaply after failing in the hack hurdles | on the first day, but 011 Monday he was 1 produced in the. Cheltenham Hurdles (open) and, thanks to jockey. Edwards slipping the field early, lie just Btrolled in. Leapuki stops like a pricked balloon when collared. Bercola and Timothy performed poorly. Aratiatia came up with a great reputation as a hurdler, and was sent out a warm order in the Waituna Hurdles. His jumping, however, was anything but good. He takes off here, and lands away out ——■ — there! "Screw jumping" never won races, but Aratiatia went a trifle straighter on the second day and finished just outside a place. St. Gate, who was ridden by W. Adams (now working in "Jimmy" Pcachey's stable at Wanganui), won very easily on Saturday, and his party threw in for a royal win. Sir Donald recovered a long overdue win in the Rongotea Hurdles, but there waa nothing very brilliant behind him. Outsiders in Waiaio and Stagnant (choice name this!), paid big dividends. Some promising hack sprinters were produced at the meeting. Ramoanawhiri (King's Guest —Ramoana), won the Aorangi Plate in hollow fashion, and did well to gain third berth in a big field in Orleans' race on Monday. Roumania (Charlemagne II. —Crimea), just got home from the consistent Princess Moutoa in the Fitzroy Handicap. Orleans was caught ill a galloping mood in the Nikau Handicap. There is 110 doubt about his pace, but he does not often run kindly. In this race, Gold Soult and Allen Doone carried "thumping" sum of money, but both cut up badly. The Maiden Scurry saw Ladogeur (Sir Laddo—'Volaigciur mare) score nicely from Ararat. By a coincidence the pair were bracketed, though not connected as regards ownership. Ararat is on the small side, but claims a fine pedigree, being by Advance—Ballarat.

She started No. 27 at the barrier, and her performance was distinctly meritorious. The welter horses were a t fair lot. Wild Lupin won all the way on the first day, and Princess Moutoa scored an overdue win on Monday. Guiding Way and Gazette let their connections down in their respective ventures in this class. Birkful couldn't raise a gallop. "Charlie" Price had a good innings 'at Feilding, riding five winners and four seconds, one of the latter being bracketed with the winner. W. Adams rode two winners, and R. Reed, L. Nolder, A. Olliver, J. O'Connell, H. Young, C. Enunerson, W. Bell, Edwards and Batten scored one apiece.
