XEW PLYMOUTH ORCHESTRAL union. ' A HSJCCESSFUL COXOEiIT. Ir. spite of the political meeting held la.it night, the orchestral union had a .good and intensely enthusiastic audience at -iheir concert, which was held' in the Good Templar llall. From sUirt to finish the programme went with a vigor and style that testified to ijie assiduous practice the orchestra has put in. Every item was a genii but tpeeial mention mast be made of "Tannhauser," the rendering of which was pervaded by the true Wagnerian spirit, while the execution was so greatly appreciated that the conductor tad to continually how 'his acknowledgements. The vocalists were a great feature of the programme. Miss Marion Mackay, who made her first appearance in New Plymouth, has a clear and pure voice which she used most artistically in her items '•Beloved, it is morn," and "'The Wood- , P'geon," and in rusponse to insistent encores she gave '"The Magic Month of May," and "What O'clock. The renaei ing of the operatic selection "O vision entrancing," by Mr. (Will Hutchens was a great treat to his auditors, Avho woiud have liked to have heard l "jP le the singing of t' l "* artistic tenor. ( His mvn composition, a patriotic song ; entitled "British every one/' created j a furore, the audience eagerly joining m the chorus.
